This perfect classic period piece of entertainment, The Irish R. Strictly speaking, this is farce rather than comedy; the humour lies in Yeates's attempts to come to grips with absurd situations. The Muse in Skebawn Simon Smiley introduces moving pictures; Yeates unknowingly allows a group to perform a banned play. The audio is vintage quality and the light merriment of the Irish musical background gives it that wonderful Irish beat, together with the comical introductory art. If you've enjoyed the first two series, you'll certainly enjoy the concluding one.

O Fire! The show sticks consistently with the character- and situation-based humor, steering well clear of the political, social, and religious issues that were such a problem in the relations of England and Ireland at that time. Peter Bowles is peerless at playing the hapless magistrate, Major Sinclair Yeates. These episodes do a nice job of handling the gently comic, slightly absurd stories that are the hallmark of the series. Sign in to vote.

Major Apollo Riggs Babs' cousin Andrew turns Yeates' house inside out with structural attempts to improve the chimneys and well. In the Curranhilty Country Yeates' day of hunting goes badly, and his experiences with a new automobile convince him to abandon it. During the matchup, the filly goes crazy, destroys a goal post, and scatters the crowd as it makes a break for freedom, with the audience in tow. She's missing in the last four to five episodes and Major Yeates's sister fills in. O Fire! Popular Reviews.

This book had a lot of words that I was unfamiliar with. He keeps trying his best to be the usual stiff-upper-lip British type, even if no one else in Ireland is. Popular Reviews. Ross is on the list of 1, books and yes, I chose to read it based on the title alone. They end up eloping with assistance from Major Yeates and Philippa.

One can only shudder at the thought of the lousy storage and inconsiderate handling that these lesser-known older television shows went through over the years This block will remain in place until legal guidance changes. Opponents of blood sports may find distasteful the fervour with which all the characters chase incompetently after every fox in sight; but the series was set at a time when this was very much a popular sport and method of pest control.
